Meet Allie the Ballard Butterfly

Allie the Ballard Butterfly is the Ballard Center’s new mascot — a bright, friendly symbol of growth, imagination, and belonging. Created by local children’s book illustrator Lindsey Yankey, Allie represents the five core Ballard Pillars: safety, support, communication, learning, and play. “My hope is that kids see themselves in her many poses of playfulness, curiosity, and strength,” Lindsey said.

Allie is named after Allie Richardson, a beloved former Ballard teacher. A real butterfly helped lead Allie to Ballard years ago — making this tribute even more special. Staff describe the mascot as “100% inspired by Alexandra ‘Allie’ Richardson, one of Ballard’s greatest ever educators.”

Allie made her first appearance at the 2025 Ballard Butterfly Bash, a joyful community celebration with food, games, and music. At noon, Allie was revealed to the crowd, and both the real Allie and Lindsey signed the new butterfly figure, officially welcoming her to the Ballard family.

From now on, Allie will be a joyful part of life at Ballard — in classrooms, at special events, and even greeting kids in costume. She’s here to inspire confidence, kindness, and curiosity in every child.

As one staff member shared, “I hope they see themselves and someday leave Ballard with those wings that will carry them.” With Allie by their side, the Ballard kids will always be reminded of the values that help them grow and the community that lifts them up.
